GORGONZOLA - il gusto Italiano IGOR manufactures Gorgonzola, a typical Italian cheese famous throughout the world for its distinctive taste and characteristic blue vein.For three generations the Leonardi family have run the business with an entrepreneurial spirit within the framework of traditional dairy production. Since March 1996 a very modern factory site of 10.000m2 has been in operation boasting state-of-the-art technology for the production, maturing and packaging of the cheese. The firm places considerable importance on quality, operating with HACCP and is currently waiting for ISO 9002 approval. By adhering to thorough and comprehensive hygiene criteria IGOR Gorgonzola is gaining success throughout the world for the guaranteed quality of its cheese. |
| How was gorgonzola discovered? This is a romantic story which we all hope is also true because it is so delicious. It is said that in 1500 a young cheese maker was “distracted” by his girlfriend and left his part-made cheese unattended overnight. The next day he mixed the curd from the night before with some fresh milk and gorgonzola was created. |
