What is il Pesatore®?

® represents tradition and the balance between quality and price.

® was the name of an estate in the Lazio region of Italy that was farmed by the Orlandi family from 1693. This family (whose coat of arms will be on all the products) represented the essence of traditional food production: small family or community producers with a passion for their land, animals and produce.

® was also the name given to the men who would roam from town to village, usually in pairs, to weigh produce for the farmers and growers. This was once the only way of accurately weighing goods for market and ensuring fair trade for the buyers. Although the "pesatore" are no longer seen, many traditional producers are still going and luckily, with the benefit of cooperatives and the sensitive utilisation of modern technology, you don't have to live in Italy to enjoy the foods they produce.

Quality Control
is a vital element when we source producers and products. In the past the "pesatore" were relied on as the official control on weights. Today the ® mark can also be relied on for quality as it represents our assurance to you that the producer and the products are subject to our rigorous and continual quality control inspections.
